Akaka Falls

* Akaka Falls State Park is located off the Belt Rd. just North of Hilo.

The falls can be viewed after a short 15 minute hike. You can "turn left" to head straight to Akaka falls, or go right for a slightly longer hike past smaller Kahuna falls (most people skip this but it's a nice walk).
* Akaka Falls is 429 Feet (129 meters) tall.
* Entrance Fee: $5.00 per car for parking (free parking along the road just outside park gates); $1 per person entrance fee. No parking or entrance charge for Hawaii residents.
* The park has restrooms and drinking water at the trail head.
* The charming town of Honomu (en route) is also good sightseeing.

Directions: Akaka Falls is about 11 miles North of Hilo on the Belt Rd. Look for the Hwy 220 Junction (Akaka Falls Rd.). Hwy 220 will lead you through the town of Honomu to Akaka Falls.
